When making a creature sometimes they are hard to imagine in their environment, and placing it in the drawing with your creature can uplift the scene a lot, but what are the pros and cons of doing this?
Pros:
1: Natural Habitat Insight: People can see your design in its natural habitat, which they may have had trouble envisioning. Usually, they do not share your vision which may cause some misunderstandings as to how it lives and the area around it.
2: Enhanced Understanding: It can boost your own understanding of the creature, when colouring a creature you usually want it to fit in with its environment and this could be difficult when you cannot see it with its surroundings.
3: Vivid Vitality: The creature can look especially good if it is posed in its habitat, while not the best for showing its anatomy it makes it look more alive and you can display its behaviour visually.
4: Visual Appeal Boost: While alone without its habitat it is easier to see, an animal in its environment can be more pleasing for people to look at, as the shadows of the surroundings add more depth to the creature.
5: Depth with Co-Exsitence: This also gives you the chance to represent the animals it shares its habitat with. While this may be on a different level from just drawing a singular animal in its environment it can really display it in an even more spectacular and visually appealing way, while still displaying its behaviours and perhaps even the other animals’ behaviours to.
Cons:
1: Time Investment: It takes more time than just drawing it on its own, as you must illustrate the area around it to.
2: Mastering Plants too: It takes an understanding of how to draw both creatures and plants, although some habitats do not feature plants the majority do, and plants are an important part of making an environment look good.
An example would be this Wyvern design, while still a work in progress the environment adds a level of detail and visual appeal that would not be present without it:

I hope you found this useful, and have a good day :>
